Spalding Indoor Bowls Club’s over-60s lost their opening game of the season 104-89 at Horncastle.

Playing their first game in Division Two, Spalding were always in the game, winning two rinks and drawing another as they picked up five points to Horncastle’s 13.

At the fifth end the score difference was just seven shots in favour of the home team, but that was extended to 17 by the tenth end.

Spalding fought back and were only trailing by seven shots as they led on three of the five rinks. But the upturn was not to last and Horncastle eventually ran out winners by 15 shots. Of Spalding’s two winning sets, Maurice Elding (skip), Kenny Kirton, David Lunn and Chris Stagles took the best rink prize.
