Spalding Indoor Bowls Club are through to the quarter finals of the national Denny Cup competition after beating Blackpool-based Newton Hall by 82 shots to 62.

Backed by a coach-load of fans at the Selby last 16 tie, Spalding dominated from the off and ended up victorious on three of the four rinks.

Scott Dunham and Simon Lilley’s sets led the way, prevailing 26-8 and 25-7 respectively.

Dunham was joined by Matt Whyers, Maurice Elding and Calvin Leuty, while Lilley skipped Rhys Hill, Andy Dawson and Rob Aves.

Graham Smith – with David Staples, Jordan Philpott and Ashley Caress – won 22-19, while John Needham’s set of Bob Davis, Kevin Ekins, Paul Simpson lost 28-9.

Next up are Desborough (Maidenhead) in the quarter final on Saturday, February 15.
