Spalding Indoor Bowls Club hosts its annual singles tournament next week.

The 2013 Spalding Open will run from Friday, December 27 to Saturday, December 28 at the Castle Sports Complex – with a host of top bowling talent arriving in town to try and lift the coveted crown.

Spalding club captain Graham Smith will be looking to defend his title, having beaten Nicky Brett in a thrilling final last year.

The tournament is part of the nationwide ‘Planet Bowls Tour’ and sees some of the worlds best bowlers participate along with many top local players, a host of young talent and current England internationals.

The star-studded field will play in a straight knockout sets format, with play beginning at 6.30pm on the Friday. The main event takes place 24 hours later, with continuous play commencing at 8.30am on Saturday.

Admission is free to all.

• Spalding IBC duo Martin Spencer and Graham Smith have been selected to represent England at the Home International Series on March 13, 14 and 15 at the Stanley Bowls Centre.

Matt Whyers and Calvin Leuty are unfortunate to miss out after trials.
