An impressive £267 was raised as Spalding Indoor Bowls Club played host to the 19th annual Gareth Hicks Memorial Trophy competition.

The tournament was a two bowl triples event, held over three games of 50 minutes.

Junior members from Spalding, along with juniors from the indoor bowls clubs at Boston and Sutton St James, competed alongside senior Spalding IBC members for the trophy.

The eventual winners were, Rebecca Clare (Boston) and Spalding’s Grace Preston, who received the trophy from Gareth’s mum Julie Hicks.

Runners-up were Spalding pair Rhys Hill and Hannah Dawson, while the winner of the senior prize was Bob Davis, with Scott Dunham finishing in second place.

All proceeds from the annual competition go to the Leukaemia Charity.

Spalding IBC’s thanks go to Gareth’s parents Julie and Graham, who donated trophies for the winners and runners up – and also to all of the juniors and relative beginners that took part.

• Spalding IBC won their top of the table clash in the men’s county league as they beat Stamford 134-64.

Hosts Spalding, who went into the game a point ahead of their rivals, won comfortably on four of the five rinks to take 16 match points.

The top winning rink was Matt Whyers, Mick Dolton, Maurice Elding and Calvin Leuty, who won 30-8.

Other rink scores: J Needham won 28-9, Graham Smith won 31-11, Paul Simpson won 26-16, Simon Lilley lost 19-20.
