A QUARTET of Spalding Indoor Bowls Club’s top female bowlers enjoyed a successful week in attempting to qualify for the national championships.
Spalding were represented in all four area finals, winning two and narrowly losing two.
Annalisa Bellamy, Rebecca Allen, Lucy Cooke and Charlie Leuty – who are all aged 25 or under – qualified for the fours event, beating a quartet from Charnwood 21-19.
Bellamy and Allen also qualified in the pairs with an impressive 24-17 win over Barwell at Melton in a very high standard game.
Unfortunately, Bellamy lost her singles match 21-18 to B Lewis from Barwell, while Bellamy, Allen and Leuty lost on an extra end to a Barwell trio in a nervy match.
The national finals, where the top 16 sets in each event battle it out to be victorious, is to be held at Melton later this month.
Matches will get under way on Friday, February 25.
•FOUR more Spalding bowlers will be bidding for national honours on Wednesday, February 16 after qualifying for the mixed fours event for the first time.
Charlie Leuty, Sylvia Wade, Martin Spencer and skip Calvin Leuty will face a quartet from the Bounds Green club in Essex in what promises to be a thrilling match.
They qualified from the area final thanks to an extra end win over a Grantham team led by former England international Dion Auckland.
The event will be staged by the Northampton Indoor Bowls Club.
