SPALDING Indoor Bowls Club’s friendly team edged out a side from Perkins on home territory.

The Spalding bowlers took an early lead – as is to be expected on their home green – but Perkins gradually came back and levelled matters by the 12th end.

The game continued in this nip and tuck fashion until the last few ends, when Spalding edged ahead to close the game at Spalding 110-96. Played in a friendly but competitive manner, the game was that close that both teams won three rink wins each.

Spalding’s top winning rink honours went to the team of Chris Williams, Edna Perkins, Alan Bates and skip David Spridgen.

• Spalding’s friendly team also played host to a team from Grantham – and they won that one too, by 131-118.

In what proved an enthralling match, the honours could have gone either before Spalding eventually took the spoils.

There was never more than a handful of shots between the teams until the 18th end, when Spalding finished the stronger.

Best scoring rink for Spalding were Jean Gray, Dave Pullin, Maggie Wheatley and Mike Laidler, who won by 40 shots to eight.

• Lincs League B team: Spalding ‘B’ just missed out on glory in their game at Louth.

Spalding took an early lead, which they maintained up until the latter stages, but the host club managed to claw their way back into the game and eventually won 92-89.

Spalding won two rinks and another, with the best set being R Hill, J Culy, G Horner and skip K Cherry, who won 23-11.
