Danny Sisson smashed five goals to fire Long Sutton 1st to an incredible 8-2 win over Harleston Magpies 2nd in East Men’s Hockey League Premier B on Saturday.

Sutton’s slick passing, pace and tireless movement was too much for Magpies to handle at Peele Leisure Centre, with Jimmy Harrison (2) and Dan Batten also on target.

It was 6-0 to hosts Sutton at the break, thanks to a four-goal haul from player-of-the-match Sisson and a brace from Harrison.

Batten got his first goal for the club after the break – and, although Magpies pulled one back, Sisson fittingly completed the scoring to round-off a memorable victory.

Spalding 1st were also in winning form down in Division 2N as they stayed five points clear at the top.

They saw off Norwich Dragons 1st 3-0, with a stunning solo goal from Stuart Cunnington and a Russ Watts effort putting them clear at half-time. Cunnington’s second calmed any Spalding nerves, but they finished the game with nine men after he and Tom Wilson were sin-binned.

In Division 3NW, Long Sutton 2nd enjoyed a 3-0 derby victory at Wisbech 3rd to consolidate fifth place in the table.

Brothers Andy and Ben Shore put Sutton 2-0 up, before Jason Mallett rounded off the scoring.

Spalding 2nd continue to go great guns in Division 4NW after the runaway leaders eased to a 5-1 victory at Alford 1st. Glen Perkins, Graham Doades and a Danny Shardlow hat-trick secured their tenth win from 11 matches.

There was a top-of-the-table clash in Division 5NW, but Spalding 3rd were seen off 2-0 by leaders Cambridge City Vets – who now have a four-point lead at the summit.

Meanwhile, Division 6NW (N) served up a derby between Long Sutton 4th and Spalding 4th.

It proved to be a pretty one-sided affair, with Spalding running out 4-0 winners at the Peele venue.

Matt Thorley got the scoring started with a penalty flick, before two quick-fire goals from the in-form Mark Smith-Hughes made it 3-0.

Darren Willson rounded off the Spalding success.

Also in Division 6NW (N), Spalding 5th clinched a 2-0 home victory over Alford 2nd.

Dominic Ibrahim’s double was enough to clinch their sixth win of the campaign.

Spalding Poachers 2nd and 3rd teams hit seven goals apiece in East Women’s Hockey League last weekend.

Poachers’ second-string cruised to a 7-2 win at rivals Boston Ladies’ 1st in Division 3NW (N), while the third side walloped visitors City of Peterborough 4th 7-1 at Glen Park in Division 4NW (N).

Scorers for Spalding 2nd were AJ Bunyan (3), Isy Whitehead (2), Kelly Varley and Roz Dennis. They remain third in the table.

The third team were equally-impressive, with Sam Foston (2), Ellie Holland (2), Michelle Smith (2) and Lucy Simpson, who enjoyed her first goal for the team, on target.

It wasn’t such a good day for Spalding Poachers 1st, however. They were crushed 7-1 by Bedford Ladies’ 2nd in Division 2NW, with Jacqui Hunter getting the late consolation goal.

Staying in Division 2NW, Long Sutton Ladies’ 1st earned a 1-0 home win over Bourne/Deeping 1st thanks to Sarah Walker’s crucial strike.

However, Long Sutton Ladies’ 2nd were hammered 9-0 by Wisbech 2nd in Division 3NW (N).
