A Josh Fyson hat-trick fired Long Sutton 2nd into the last four of the national HA Plate competition on Sunday.
Sutton’s second string saw off a talented Burton 2nd side 6-3 to book a home date with Brooklands MU in the semi-finals on March 9.
They started the last eight clash well and an excellent finish from man-of-the-match Adam Wiles put them ahead within minutes.
This early boost led to a continued period of pressure – from which Fyson added a second.
However, as the half went on Burton came into the game and two defensive lapses allowed them to equalise and go into half time at 2-2.
Undeterred, Sutton started the second half with renewed vigour and it was no surprise when Fyson made it 3-2, before Wiles restored their two-goal cushion.
This time Sutton did not allow Burton to come back – and when Andy Shore converted a well-worked short corner routine, the result wasn’t in doubt.
Burton did snatch one back, but Fyson had the last word.
