Spalding Poachers earned a deserved 3-1 home win over City of Peterborough Ladies’ 2nd in their penultimate East Women’s Hockey League Division 2N game of the season.

Karen Timby’s penalty flick gave Spalding a deserved 1-0 lead at half time, before Tori Needham swept home a second from a penalty corner. Although COP pulled one back, Kelly Tuplin fired a third late on to seal the points.

However, Spalding Poachers 2nd suffered a surprise 1-0 loss to rivals Boston Ladies’ 1st in Division 3NW (N).

Although they were dominant from the off, Poachers had to wait until the 53rd minute for their first real chance when AJ Bunyan saw her penalty flick saved.

It proved costly as Boston went up the other end to score from a rare attack.

In the same division, Long Sutton Ladies’ 2nd were handed an 8-0 derby humbling by rivals Wisbech Ladies’ 2nd.

But there was better news for Spalding Poachers 3rd in Division 4NW (N), as they won 4-0 at City of Peterborough Ladies’ 4th.

A brace from captain Samantha Maltby and further strikes from Michelle Smith and Lucy Simpson sealed the points for Spalding, who remain second in the table.
