SPALDING POACHERS 1st 1 UNIVERSITY OF EAST ANGLIA 2: Poachers’ interest in the EHA Vase was ended by a cruel last-minute strike on Sunday.

In their second game of the weekend, Spalding started the far stronger side but were unable to put away their chances. They were then punished by a smartly-taken penalty corner which gave UEA a 1-0 lead going into the break.

The hosts battled to find an equaliser in the second half, but chances from Steph Wilson and Karen Timby went a begging.

With eight minutes to go Coral Wild kept her calm to score the leveller at the far post after build up play by Jacqui Hunter.

But a defensive error allowed ten-player UEA to snatch a winner.
