Spalding 3rd smashed seven unanswered goals past miserly Leadenham 1st in Division 5NW on Saturday to keep their fine start going.
Man-of-the-match Darren Grooby scored a sensational 15-minute hat-trick for seven-up Spalding, with Tom Shinkins, Tim Maltby and a stunning Peter Gray strike among the other scorers.
Leadenham had only conceded four goals all season before the drubbing, with Spalding up to third as a result.
Up in Premier B Division, Long Sutton 1st slipped to a 2-1 defeat against Felixstowe 1st – but should really have got at least a draw. Sutton deservedly opened the scoring when Danny Sisson finished of a slick move.
They had their chances to kill off the game in the second half, but two goals from the visitors left them with nothing.
Spalding 1st stay top of Division 2N after beating Pelicans 1st 6-2 at Glen Park.
James Doolan, Mike Morris and top scorer Stuart Cunnington had them 3-1 up at half-time. Morris and Cunnington both doubled their tallies in the second period, before Callum Clarke rounded off the rout.
Also top of the pile are Spalding 2nd, but they dropped points for the first time in Division 4NW after drawing 0-0 at unbeaten Louth 1st.
Long Sutton 2nd are just a point off the Division 3NW summit after beating bogey side St Ives 2nd 3-1.
Alex Canham put visitors Sutton ahead early on, before man-of-the-match Stefan Fox set up Jason Mallett for the second. Although the hosts pulled one back, Mallett’s second sealed the win.
Back in Division 5NW, Gary Hales netted a super hat-trick to guide Long Sutton 3rd to a 3-2 win over St Ives 4th.
Spalding 4th went down 2-0 at Boston 1st in Division 6NW (N), but in the same league Spalding 5th beat Bourne/Deeping 5th 2-0 to go 2nd. Dominic Ibrahim and Darren Willson got the goals.
Also in Division 6NW (N), Long Sutton 4th were handed a 6-1 reverse by leaders Horncastle 2nd. Harry Synnott was the sole scorer for the young Sutton side, with keeper Joss Calderbank man of the match.
• Long Sutton Ladies’ 1st earned a fine 3-2 win at promotion rivals Royston 1st on Saturday to stay third in East Women’s League Division 2NW.
Goals from Charlie Leuty and Leanne Woodhead had Sutton 2-1 ahead, before a deflected Sarah Walker effort sealed the win.
In the same division, Spalding Poachers 1st pushed leaders Letchworth 1st all the way before going down 4-3.
Kelly Tuplin (2) and Jacqui Hunter did score to haul Poachers level at 3-3, but the table-toppers grabbed a fourth to keep their 100 per cent start going.
But Spalding Poachers 2nd did secure their first victory in Division 3NW (N) after seeing off hosts Horncastle 1st 4-1. Alanna ‘AJ’ Bunyan, Amber Wild and Belinda Providence scored to put Spalding 3-0 up at the break, with Bunyan adding a second late on.
Also in 3NW, Long Sutton Ladies’ 2nd were handed a 3-1 reverse by Boston 1st.
Laura Temple notched a well-deserved consolation strike for Sutton in the second half.
Elsewhere, Spalding Poachers 3rd were 2-1 winners over Wisbech 3rd in Division 4NW (N). After falling behind, Samantha Foston and Kelly Varley netted for Spalding.
