Fun for all the family took on a whole new meaning as the junior section prize giving night at Long Sutton Hockey Club was preceded by a couple of Parents v Juniors matches.
It was a fantastic effort and turnout from 20 parents, eager to show where the kids’ talent comes from, although it’s fair to say one or two of them were a little rusty. Neil Burton won the prize for being the most entertaining parent and all now know now where Tom developed his tackling technique!
Ian White led the presentations for the last time, paying tribute to some of the older players who are graduating out of the juniors (Kieran Forrest, Lewis Shooter) and recognising the contributions of some of the younger players (Charlotte Maplethorpe, Maisie Sullivan, Hannah Baker, Matt Goodley, Kieron Smith).
Ed Lanning received an award on behalf of the Under 12s, who performed so well on the League Finals day.
Major award winners – leading scorer: Josh Baker; most improved player: William Taylor: best girl: Georgina Maplethorpe;best boy: Harry Thorpe.
All the juniors were awarded medals to commemorate their effort and achievements.
With the U12s and U14s both finishing the season as runners-up, Long Sutton feel they have the best squad of junior hockey players in the county.
