SPALDING Gymnastic Academy’s Laura Van-Lier was crowned county champion as the club hosted the Lincolnshire Floor and Vault Championships.

Laura Van-Lier bagged gold in the age 11 section with a score of 22.90, and will now represent the county – alongside two team-mates – at the regional finals in Leicester next month.

An impressive 142 gymnasts competed at the event, with Spalding’s girls enjoying success.

Charlotte Maplethorpe – who will also join the Lincolnshire squad – finished with the bronze medal (22.55) in her age group (nine years), while in the aged ten years section Jennifer Platt (20.70), Sian Matson (20.45) and Dulcie Baker (20.40) were sixth, seventh and eighth respectively.

As well as Van-Lier in the 11 years category, Laura Delve was 7th (21.30), Sophie Whittington and Annie Buchanan (21.20) were equal eighth, while Molly Hodgson (19.70) and Ella Tolley (19.95) both had a good competition.

In the 12 years age group, Hannah Lawrence (22.00) won the silver medal to secure a place in the county team, with Elinor Hughes (21.65) equal fourth and Elexia Coote (21.35) sixth.

Also in this age group there were solid shows from Amy Liquorish (21.10), Shelby Carrington (20.80), Tyler-Mae Harker (20.80), Colby Riley (20.40) and Simran Bhondi (19.30).

Another fine result saw Yasminder Bhondi take sixth in the age 14 section (21.05). Leanne Moore (20.20) backed her up well.
