GYMNASTICS: Spalding juniors seize chance

SPALDING gymnasts were in action again in the County Level 5 Championships staged at their club.

This time it was the chance of the junior squad to take the plaudits – and what a day they had winning medals in every age group.

Starting the day off with a great display and winning gold was Evie Freeman (44.600) in the 9 years age group. Alice Baxter performed very well, just missing out on a top-six place (40.400).

Abbie Stubbs (36.933) was also competing in this age group.

In the 8 years age group Ruby Vertuccio just missed out on gold, taking the silver medal position (41.267). Also in this group was Alice Bailey (36.500).

In the 11 years age group Dulcie Baker took the silver medal (43.800) with Sian Matson fourth (42.667). Olivia Thompson was 8th (41.033) and Christine Mumby 13th (37.533).

The 10 yrs age group saw Erin Bailey take the bronze medal (44.967), Ellie Keeble finish eighth (41.967) and Phillippa Lawler 10th (41.200).

Spalding gymnast Sophie Whittington took gold in the 12 years age group (44.533).

Molly Hodgson just missed out on a medal, finishing fourth (39.933).

Colby Riley showed her talent by taking silver (44.100) in the 13+ age group.

Elexia Coote came fifth (43.600) with Simran Bhondi sixth (43.467). Emma Gregory was 11th (40.167) and Yasminder Bhondi 13th (40.033).

Out of the 102 gymnasts that were entered into the competition, 14 passed to Level 4, with six coming from Spalding.

Spalding Gymnastic Academy head coach Alec Harding said: “A brilliant day for all gymnasts that were involved for Spalding.”
