SPALDING Gymnastic Club enjoyed success on two fronts as their reputation continues to go from strength to strength.

The Cradge Bank club’s boys were crowned county champions at a big floor and vault championship, while three of their girls will represent Lincolnshire after stellar showings at a county junior/senior event.

Both events were held on the same day – at Spalding – with the girls getting the action under way in the morning.

At junior level, Serena Leadbeater did tremendously well to finish with the silver medal after scoring 45.85.

She will now compete for Lincolnshire at the regional inter-county competition later this year.

At the same level Jennifer Platt managed to finish seventh (43.73).

The senior competition was at a higher level, with Spalding gymnast Lois Lachasseigne’s showing a great surprise for everyone working alongside her. Performing well above her level, she won the bronze with a fine score of 42.07.

Emma Coddington also had a good competition and finished up in an excellent sixth place (40.58). Both girls will now represent the county.

Francesca Harper and Hannah Lawrence, who were in the senior category too, would have finished higher but for a bad bar score.

In the afternoon it was the turn of the boys to show their ability – and they didn’t disappoint.

Spalding’s junior competition team of Callum Windsor, Joe Busby and Zac Chapman scored 65.8 to place second in the invitational event. But no other Lincolnshire team could match them, making the trio county champions.

Not content with that, Jamie Waterson, Oliver King, Riley Bristow and Jamie Steel followed closely behind them to take the bronze medal, with their score of 65.6 good enough for second in the county and making it a Spalding one-two.

The senior team of Kieron Steel, Luke Waterson and Ross Chapman worked very well as a unit, but just failed to finish in a medal position.

Against some incredibly strong teams from Milton Keynes and Lincoln, they finished up a respectable fourth.

• SPALDING gymnasts delivered a number of excellent showings at a recent Level Five event.

Molly Hodgson grabbed bronze overall on vault, while on beam Sian Matson, Evie Freeman and Sophie Whittington all won a bronze medal with a score of 11.90.

Erin Bailey and Evie Freeman were equal sixth on floor.
