GENEROUS players from Spalding Golf Club have raised more than £6,000 for a good cause.

Ray Harrison, the senior section’s captain for 2011, ended his year in office last week – and during his term, all proceeds from open and invitation days plus many other fundraising activities have been collected for his chosen beneficiary, the Priory School, Spalding.

The senior section raised a fantastic grand total of £6,002, which was presented to Daran Bland, the headteacher at the special school for secondary aged pupils with moderate learning difficulties based at Neville Avenue, Spalding.

• THE Captain versus Vice Captain competition held by Spalding Golf Club’s ladies’ section ended in a competitive draw this year.

With 52 players taking part, there was a draw for partners – with those playing for new skipper Norma Parker dressed in pink and vice-captain Angela Roper’s team dressed in purple.

Played in a Stableford format, it was a hard fought clash, with Roper’s team taking an early lead before being pegged back.

Winners of the raffle were Olive Gooderson and Avril Norton, which raised a total of £64 for the captain’s charity.

• The third round of the Groom Shield was won by Barbara Newcombe.

With ten ladies qualifying to play in the bogey competition, she won on countback with a score +3.

In second place was Anita Cross, while Maureen Orwellwas a little off the pace in third with -1.

Barbara and Anita will now play a final bogey round to determine the outright winner of the competition.
