Spalding ladies enjoyed another excellent outing as the Lincolnshire Ladies’ Past Captains Golfing Society held their annual competition.
Hosted by Blankney Golf Club, there were over 160 entrants (all past captains of Lincolnshire clubs) at the 18-hole individual Stableford event, which was played from a 7/8 handicap.
There was also a team prizes up for grabs, with the best three scores out of four players to count.
Spalding’s success began with a win in the Silver Division from Barbara Newcombe, who scored an impressive 36 points.
That was followed with another first palce in the Bronze Division, as Millie Thorold also bagged 36 points.
Spalding also finished in second and third places in the team event. The Second place team comprised of Newcombe, Paula Brown, Lesley Williams and Linda Double, while the third team was made up of Elizabeth Holbrook, Anne Ellis, Jean White and Sue Watson.
• A FRIENDLY away match at Boston West resulted in a fine 3-1 victory for Spalding’s ladies.
Norma Parker and Angela Roper won 5&3, Mags McArdle and Barbara Newcombe won 5&4, Carole Holland & Paula Brown lost (8&6) and Avril Norton and Eileen Bridge won (2&1).
• The Groom Cup, played at Spalding, proved a very testing competition for many players.
The 18-hole foursome bogey event, which was played in breezy conditions, was won by Lesley Williams and Linda Double with an all square result. Mags McArdle and Beryl Skinner (1 down) were second ahead of Janet and Molly Davies in third on 2 down.
