Long Sutton sidecar driver Scott Parnell brought in highly-rated Formula 1 championship passenger Luke Capewell for the third round of the British F2 Championship.
With Dover-based passenger Mark Wilkes leaving Team SMP to join a team nearer his home, Parnell had no time to secure a passenger for the Oulton round but he returned at Cadwell Park at the weekend.
For Sunday’s qualifying the sidecar developed a gearbox fault so Parnell could only qualify in 21st place.
The fault worsened in the opening race, leading to a seventh lap retirement, but they went on to finish 18th in the main race and fifth in the cup.
Parnell has secured the services of Dean Kilkenny for the rest of the season.
