Long Sutton sidecar driver Scott Parnell suffered a frustrating return to the track at the weekend.
After nearly four months since the last round of the British Formula Two Sidecar Championship, Parnell and passenger Dean Kilkenny made the trip to the 1.9-mile Donington Park circuit in Leicestershire full of hope for two 10-lap races.
With a full grid of 29 sidecars lining up the team qualified in 22nd, only completing four laps due to a fuelling problem which meant the sidecar was losing power.
With some urgent repairs before the afternoon race Parnell was hoping the change of a fuel pump would do the trick.
However, the problem occurred again and they had to retire after two laps.
Further repairs were made overnight for Sunday’s race but after just six laps the Suzuki-powered machine suffered the same problem.
A disappointed Parnell hopes the problem lies with the fuel tank, something they couldn’t repair at the circuit.
It was all the more annoying as Parnell was really getting to grips with driving, especially with his experienced passenger on board.
