Spalding High School’s equestrian team continued their recent fine form by achieving a top three finish in each of the classes they entered at the National Schools qualifying event held in Grantham.

In a very large competition, the 80/85cm show jumping team of Olivia Gresswell, Helen Peach, Nina Halgarth and Lucy Daly won the class by a substantial margin and were the only team to have all four riders with clear rounds. This fantastic performance ensured that the talented team qualified for the National Championships, which will be held at Addington Manor in October.

The 70/75cm Show Jumping team of Peach, Amy Whittington, Halgarth and Gresswell narrowly missed out on qualification, finishing a credible third with three riders going clear. Gresswell also placed fourth as an individual.

Showing their versatility, the dressage team of Daly, Yasmin Peach and Gresswell overcame the pressure of only having three riders to record a fantastic second place, just 0.5 per cent behind the winners.

They also qualify for the National Championships, as did Daly as an individual after she placed second. Peach, meanwhile, was an equally impressive fourth on her borrrowed horse in the prelim section.

More success folowed for Daly, who rode a fantastic clear round in the 90/95cm show jumping class to finish as fourth in the individual rankings.

The team are now looking forward to building on their success when they host their own regional qualifier at Sissons Farm Equestrian Centre this Sunday.
