EBA Section Four (Spalding area) Club Championship: IT’S looked on the cards for much of the Group A season, but Carter’s Park have finally wrapped up title in emphatic fashion.
The champagne moment for the Holbeach side came in a 9-1 win over Consti, which sends them 23 points with only two games and 20 points left to play for.
Nobody could argue that they’re not deserving champions, having won 13 of their 14 matches so far. Classy Carter’s Park picked up two of the three rinks, with the most impressive being a 21-9 return from P Salter, C Chamberlain, D Hibbins and A Dunham.
Also winners were R Flowers, B Mills, G Palmer and J Forrest (25-15), as the title was toasted in style.
Whaplode Drove hope to be rubbing shoulders with the new champions next season, having extended their lead at the top of Group B to ten points.
The second tier leaders had a bit too much for Spalding Town B as they registered a ninth win of the season.
Of the three rinks, E Moore, M Parkin, J Redden and J Ivatt starred with a 20-10 success.
Drove’s plight was aided further by Holbeach USC, who crushed second-placed Billingborough 10-0 on their own green.
A 22-9 return from S Thomas, J Barker, Steve Whatley and K Steward was the stand-out showing for the Holbeach side, as Boro tasted only a second loss in their last ten games.
There was no such trouble for Goodfellowship in Triples A, as they strengthened their grip on top spot.
An 8-2 victory at Royal Mail Cart sees than 12 points clear with games running out. The Fosdyke team’s two winning rinks notched 20 shots or more, with the 29-9 haul of P Rate, D Allen and M Rate the best on offer.
However, runaway Triples B leaders Billinborough suffered a wobble last week.
They were handsomely beaten 10-0 by Castle A, as their lead was cut to 19 points.
That’s because Ayscoughfee beat Castle C 10-0 with C Appleyard, J Clarke and Paul Caress starring 26-15.
