EBA BOWLS: Carter’s Park closing on Group A title glory

Have your say

EBA Section Four (Spalding area) Club Championship: TWO more impressive wins have edged Carter’s Park ever closer to the Group A crown.

The Holbeach side roared to a 10-0 victory at Castle before dispatching the same side 8-2 on their own green – opening up a big 18 point lead with just three league games to go.

Of the two wins, the away one was the most emphatic, with a 30-7 rink return from R Flowers, B Mills, G Palmer and J Forrest the stand-out showing.

Royal Mail Cart A, perhaps the only side capable of crashing the Carter’s Park party, lost ground in the race for glory after coming unstuck at Spalding Town A.

In a pretty close clash, an eye-catching 25-14 win from D Gedney, J Philpott, S Lane and M Elding helped clinch the lion’s share of the points for hosts Town and left second-placed Mail Cart firmly up against it.

It’s all to play for in Group B too, as Whaplode Drove’s wobbles continued.

Having looked invincible for so long, it’s now three losses in four games for the joint leaders – with Bourne handing them a 9-1 reverse this week.

A whopping 31-3 win from M Thompson, J Banks, T Burton and P Dimbleby was the stand-out moment, as Drove further opened the door for their title rivals.

Billingborough took full advantage too, crushing Royal Mail Cart B 10-0 to haul themselves level at the summit.

All three sets were on super form, with 26 shots coming from P Howse, T Pittkin, J Jones and S Long.

Perhaps the biggest shock of the week came in Triples A, where Consti B registered a maiden victory of the season at the expense of leaders Carter’s Park A.

They were inspired by a thrilling 29-20 victory from M Hubbert, K Walbrin and A Buffery.

That result leaves Goodfellowship as favourites for the title. With two games in hand, the Fosdyke fliers are three points clear following a comfortable 8-2 home win against Spalding Town B.

They took two of the three rinks in ruthless fashion, highlighted by a massive 34-5 success from P Rate, D Allen and M Rate.

Consti A are also in the mix for the top Triples prize after a whitewash win over Carter’s Park B.

All three rinks were on top form to secure the ten point haul, with an impressive 24 shots going to A Sculthorpe, J Garland and T Wright.

It’s a bit more clear cut in Triples B, with leaders Billingborough breaking the 100 point barrier.

They made it ten wins from 11 games by seeing off Moulton Harrox B 8-2, which puts them 20 points clear.

Castle B have yet to give up the chase and have an outside chance of glory after a 9-1 victory at Spalding Town B.
