BUOYANT Carter’s Park leapt to the top of Group A in the EBA (Section Four) Club Championship.

It came with a third 10-0 win – this time a home defeat of Gosberton.

One Carter’s Park set – Ron Flowers, Andy Dunham, G Palmer and J Forrest – was particularly impressive with a 33-9 success.

Consti became the first side to take points off Donington this season when T Wright, R Ginders, M Hardstaff and R Digby beat John Needham’s set by four shots (15-11).

But Donington won on the other two rinks.

They slipped one place to third in the early standings.

Taking second spot was Royal Mail Cart, who returned from Castle A with maximum points.

It was a fairly comfortable night on all three rinks for the visitors, the smallest winning margin being seven shots.

Elsewhere, Spalding Town picked up their second win of the season. They took two rinks at Moulton Harrox.

The home side’s success came from skip R Duke, Kevin Ekins, G Hicks and Martyn Stanley.

In Group B, Bourne Town opened up a six-point gap at the top. They squeezed the full ten points out of a home fixture with Holbeach USC.

Top set was Peter Dimbleby, T Burton, T Ayliff and M Thompson, who saw off J Poole, B Fant, J Barker and D Eggleston 24-13.

Whaplode Drove and Long Sutton enjoyed a tight match.

The result was in the balance right until the end, Drove edging home by three shots overall (52-49). They took eight points to maintain an unbeaten start.

Spalding Town B have begun the season with three straight defeats. Last week it was an 11-shot loss to Royal Mail Cart B.

However, R White, B Wheatly, R May and R Moore enjoyed a handsome 22-10 win on one rink for Town.

Billingborough suffered a first defeat of the season as Deepings took eight points from their match, winning by 12 shots.

Top-scoring rink was P Blessett, B Wilkinson, R Stephenson and D Cox, who won 25-18.
