Long Sutton men’s first team opened their league account with a hard-earned point against Waltham Forest.

Sutton started brightly and immediately put Waltham under pressure with some sharp play.

Sutton then became sloppy and their basic skills seemed to desert them, allowing Waltham to take the lead.

Sutton started the second period with a positive attitude knowing they couldn’t afford to drop points.

Tom Baguley was sent to the sin bin to cool off after a heated challenge but Sutton kept going and their efforts were rewarded.

In the dying minutes league debutant Adam Wiles glided into the D superbly and as the challenge came in the ball spurned away to
captain Jimmy Harrison who slot home for a share of the spoils.

A fair result in the end for Sutton’s second-half efforts but they know they must work on the simple things in the coming weeks to reap
better rewards.

Long Sutton 2nd lost to St Neots 1st with three goals in each half.

The third team went down 4-2 to Wisbech Town 4th with replies from David Maris and debutant Will White.

Long Sutton 4th won 7-1 against Bourne-Deeping 6th with hat-tricks for James Baker and Luke Proctor. Gary
Hales added the seventh
goal.

Long Sutton ladies first team produced a stunning opening-day performance to beat Bourne-Deeping 5-2.

Becky Kierman, Robyn Gribble (2), Lisa Baker and Leanne Woodhead were on target.

The ladies second team shared eight goals with Louth 2nd with Georgina
Maplethorpe levelling after Jeorgia Carr’s hat-trick.
