Bladerunners whitewash closest rivals to secure the title

Bladerunners retained the Spalding and District Table Tennis LeagueDivision One title thanks to a 5-0 win over closest rivals South Holland.

Tomascz Dobrzyn and David Gibson took all five games to complete their seventh whitewash in 12 matches.

Defenders completed their season with a 3-2 defeat against Haz Beans, and are currently third although the Beans have two matches left and need just thre points to overtake them.

Tony Cooper and Colin Vertigan each took one point and teamed up for the deciding doubles.

Jean White returned to league action and scored both points for the losers.

Lower down the table Outsiders won by the same amount against JAG.

Jon Chesworth won both his singles and helped take the doubles.

However, despite having defeated their rivals twice, they remain at the foot of the table with games won deciding the placings.

In Division Two Mine’s a Pint began the evening with a doubles win to complete their delayed match with Ha’st 5-0.

They then completed their league programme with another 5-0 win against Castle Sports.

Mike Mulligan and Nicola Wilkinson took all their games and the doubles for a 5-0 win to establish a seven-point lead at the top while chasers Dark Knights can only gain another five points.

Earlier in the evening Dobrzyn and Gibson had retained their doubles title when defeating Richard Hammond and John Gilbert 11-9, 11-9, 9-11 7-11, 11-5.
