PYRAMID B continued their scorching start to the Spalding and District Billiards League with a second whitewash on the spin.
Runners-up last season, the Bourne side moved five points clear in the early standings with a 7-0 win at Donington.
Martin O’Connor (R40) led the charge with a 29 break, while Maurice Phillipson (R90) won a titanic tussle with an on-form Sid Shaw (O10) 200-197. That makes it three wins out of three for the leaders.
Second-placed Holbeach B also boast a 100 per cent record – but they were pushed all the way by a Rob Childs-inspired Crowland.
Childs (O200) made breaks of 41, 33, 30, 28 and 25 as he won his frame convincingly, but Nigel Ward (R100) and Chris Chamberlain (R90) delivered the goods for Holbeach.
Elsewhere, Mick Johnson (O185) pocketed the first genuinely big break of the season – but still lost his frame.
The Consti B ace trousered a stunning 80 against Gosberton A, but couldn’t overhaul the huge handicap against Alan Kirk (R120). Tim Dennis (R110) was also on winning form for Gosberton as they wrapped up a 5-2 triumph.
A few handy breaks were scored in Holbeach C’s 4-3 win at Crowland A, too. The hosts’ Derek Tinkler (O30) top scored with 39 and 33, but was pipped to the post by Brian Bowell (R20) in their frame. Bowell made scores of 30 and 26.
Also winners were Consti C, who defeated Consti A 5-2 despite Robert Adams’ (R30) cool 42 break.
