MASTERFUL Mick Johnson reeled off the first century break of the Spalding and District League season last week – but he still lost.
The BSC cue ace, who plays off an O170 handicap, delivered a sensational 126 against Crowland B’s Paul Holland (R70), backed up by an 87 break that would also have been the top score of the campaign.
But Holland, who managed scores of 23 and 27 himself, took the spoils 200-169. Second-placed Consti still prevailed 5-2 overall, though.
That keeps them 21 points behind unbeaten leaders Pyramid B, who made it 11 wins from as many games by defeating Consti C by the same score.
Elsewhere, veteran Hugh Pinner (O170) pocketed fine breaks of 56, 40 and 33 (twice) as his Holbeach C side earned one of two 7-0 successes.
Their victims were Donington, for whom Sidney Shaw (O10) trousered a 39 break.
The other whitewash went to third-placed BSC, who cruised past Gosberton. Martin Deacon (R80) led the way with a 34 break.
Also winners were Crowland A. They saw off Pyramid A 4-3, despite Eric Wyer’s (R30) solid break of 30.
