Saracen’s Head rider Ben Stafford claimed 15th place at Oulton Park in round seven of the Pirelli National 600 stock race.
Qualifying one was a dry track on Friday afternoon and, in his first race at the Cheshire track, Stafford put the Silicone Engineering machine into a respectable 20th position.
The second session came on Saturday and after the morning warm-up and some minor changes to the machine, Stafford went even better by dropping his lap times and starting the race in 18th on the grid for his best qualifying position to date.
Stafford made a good start from the inside grid and made up some five places from the line, only to be shut out and reduced back to 18th position.
Some neat manoeuvres through the race got him into 15th place when he overshot at hislop chicane and had do it all again. He regained all of the lost positions by the time the chequered flag dropped and the 12 laps completed.
Although the team are very happy with the progress, Stafford was a little frustrated with his performance.
The next outing is at Cadwell Park over the bank holiday weekend when he will look towards a slightly better result.
