Spalding Hockey Girls beat off fellow Lincolnshire opposition to become beach rounders champions 2012.

They won three out of the five matches. Micronclean from Skegness finished in second place.

Rounders taster sessions were held throughout the day.

Michele Golland, Rounders England event organiser, who attended with her team of umpires, said: “The games were competed in good spirits with all the ladies giving their best.

“Even after six hours of play they were all smiling at the end.

“Rounders is a great game which offers ladies the opportunity to make new friends, while unknowingly keeping fit.”

Rachel Belcher, Rounders Development Officer at Lincolnshire Sports Partnership, organised the event with Rounders England.

She said: “The two teams embraced the spirit of the day and we had some really fun and exciting games. It was fantastic to see people watching from the pier and I hope more people are inspired to play rounders.”
