STUART Redman took the honours as Deeping St James Angling Club fished for the Charlie Welsh title on the Deeping roadside stretch of the River Welland.
With the odds stacked against the anglers, the river was low, gin clear and with very little flow, fish were caught along the whole length.
Redman’s winning net was 5lb 8oz, as he pegged upstream off the stone bridge. His catch contained small roach on the whip and breadpunch, plus two bonus perch on chopped worm.
Second was Ray Torrington with an all small fish net for 3lb 10oz, again on the whip and breadpunch approach.
Graham Wright came in third with 3lb 2oz using the same method.
The next match is on the Nene at Wansford and anyone wishing to fish should contact Carl Fisher 07734 583567 or Andy Wilson 07787 352762.
