ROGER Smith made it two wins on the spin as he landed Holbeach and District Angling Club’s Hat and Feathers Cup.

Following on from his success in the Farrow Cup, he bagged a 3.150kg net of rudd, roach and perch at Cement Straight.

His winning tally was taken on red maggot, fishing at six metres.

Second place went to Jonathan Stubley with 1.700kg, while Nigel Claridge was third with 1.450kg.

The draw for this Sunday’s match for the Alpe and Stokes Trophy is at Leedsgate Bridge (7.15am).

• Fifteen members from Deeping St James Angling Club (DSJAC), British Sugar, JVC and Spalding Angling Club had a complete change of scenery last weekend.

They gave the local waters a miss to compete for the Ray Gregory ‘Anglers On Tour’ trophy – an annual series of matches fished on the tidal rivers of the Norfolk Broads.

A fierce headwind for the first match on the river Bure at St Benets Abbey made it hard going, but DSJAC member Andy Wilson ran out the winner with an 8lbs 2ozs mixed catch of skimmer and roach.

Hugh Mannall and Dawn Morley filled the runner up places.

A switch to the Beachamp Arms stretch of the river Yare for the second match saw British Sugar angler Richard Bell from Spalding lift the trophy with a weight of 13lbs 12ozs. His catch of roach included a one and a half pound specimen.

Just eight ounces short and filling second place in the series was Deeping’s Hugh Mannall with 13lbs 4ozs.
