TEEN ace Peter Bell pulled off a stunning victory to become South Holland League champion at Deeping St James Angling Club.
The Spalding lad lifted the title on a rain swept Yoke Hill Fishery last Sunday in the face of some pretty tough opposition.
Drawn at peg 17 on the venue’s Wilfred Weir Lake, Bell baited with red maggot and fished a full 13 metres to the far bank to take a winning 36lbs 10oz bag of carp.
He just pipped second-placed Stuart Redman’s catch of 36lbs by a tiny 10oz.
Third on the day was Ray Torrington with 32lbs 12oz.
Bell said: “The prize money will come in be very handy, as I am shortly going fishing for a few days on the Norfolk Broads with some of my fellow club members.”
Bell’s victory was something of a surprise, having originally missed out on qualifying by just five points.
But with three of the qualifiers unable to fish on the day, the youngster seized his chance to take the title.
