FA CUP first round qualifying: DEEPING RANGERS 5 (Moreman 2, Jones, Battersby, Gilbert) NEW MILLS 1: DEEPING boss Tuncay Korkmaz welcomed news of their third Evo-Stik League Division One opposition in the FA Cup with Budweiser this season.

Their reward for humbling New Mills on Saturday is a home draw against Leek Town, who are sixth in the table. The tie is at Outgang Road on Saturday, October 1.

Having beaten Belper Town in the previous round, Rangers saw off New Mills with some ease. And having performed well against Evo-Stik sides Grantham Town and Lincoln United in pre-season, Deeping need not fear the standard of opposition.

Korkmaz said: “A home draw is a plus because we’ve been quite good there.

“I’m pleased with the draw and it’s looking good on paper.”

Deeping were out of the traps quickly on Saturday – going ahead against New Mills in the opening exchanges, Josh Moreman providing the looping cross for Mark Jones to head in.

A controversial penalty on 68 minutes enabled Tony Battersby to make it 2-0. Many fans felt the New Mills keeper had got two hands on the ball at the feet of Moreman but the ref saw it otherwise.

Moreman then rattled in a brace to put Deeping in an unassailable lead and even a Spencer Tinkler own goal did little to spoil the buzz of another scalp.

Kevin Gilbert made it 5-1 after more skilful work by Moreman on the edge of the box.

Korkmaz said: “I would have taken any win before the game but that was fantastic.

“The performance against a very good side shows that we have a very good group of players.

Deeping: Doughty, Evans, K Jones, Tinkler, Jackson, Weston, Gilbert, Heron (Cox), Battersby (Burton-Jones), Moreman, M Jones (Oliver). Unused: Birtles, Franklin.

Tonight: League – Sleaford Town v Deeping Rangers (7.45pm). Saturday: FA Vase second round qualifying – Ollerton Town v Deeping Rangers.
