Spalding United’s FA Vase game at Ely City failed a Saturday morning pitch inspection – making it the second weekend wipeout on the spin.
Despite the best efforts of Ely, who spent much of Friday clearing snow from their pitch, the fourth round tie failed a 9am pitch inspection.
The duo will try again on Tuesday night – meaning Spalding’s home Lincs FA Senior Shield semi-final with Holbeach United at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field with have to be rearranged.
Holbeach also have the weekend off. Their UCL Premier Division trip to Long Buckby was called off late on Thursday night, with the Station Road pitch still nowhere near playable.
Deeping Rangers’ game at Cogenhoe United has also fallen foul to the big freeze, as has Bourne Town’s scheduled trip to Buckingham Town in UCL Division One.
All games in the Peterborough and District League, Boston and District League and Spalding Sunday League were all expected to be off too.
In rugby, Spalding RFC’s Midlands One East home date with Old Northamptonians failed a pitch inspection, while the hockey schedule has also been decimated. Long Sutton Hockey Club announced on Friday that all of their games were off.
If any games did manage to beat the weather locally, we’ll have a round-up in Tuesday’s Lincolnshire Free Press.
