Jamie Thurlbourne is the latest big name to join Spalding United – and two more are likely to follow him to the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field.
Tulips chief Pat Rayment swooped for the King’s Lynn Town left sider after releasing full back Josh Freeman from his squad. Thurlbourne was part of the Linnets side that finished UCL Premier Division runners-up in successive seasons and was recently linked with Wisbech Town.
Rayment is also hoping to conclude a deal for Stamford defender Michael Jacklin on Thursday and has moved to sign highly-rated St Neots keeper Michael Duggan. That’s because regular number one Lee Drury is having to leave the club after landing a new job – which will leave him with no time to play football.
Rayment said: “Lee’s last game will be this Saturday. I’d like to wish him well, he’s been absolutely different class. I’m sad to see him go, but pleased he’s got a job he really wanted.
“Jamie is a terrific signing for the club. He can play left back or further forward and is capable of getting goals.
“We decided to let Josh go because his head wasn’t right. To be honest I ran out of patience with him.”
Thurlbourne is eligible for Saturday’s masssive FA Vase game with Guernsey.
