TULIPS: Spalding prepare for Sutton Vase tie... yet again
A 2013 fixture pile-up looks likely for Spalding United after Wednesday night’s FA Vase third round clash at Sutton Town was postponed again.
The duo will try again for a third time on Saturday (3pm), with the Tulips’ scheduled league game at Shepshed Dynamo to be played at a later date.
Spalding have already played two less games than their UCL Premier Division title rivals – leaving them to play catch up later in the season.
With that in mind, boss Pat Rayment is planning to increase the size of his squad –and has already slapped in a seven-day notice of approach for Quorn midfielder Chris Gray.
Rayment said: “I’m looking to get a squad of 18 or 19 together. We’ll have a busy second half of the season and need more options.
“At this time of year everyone at our level is affected by the weather, but we’ve probably had it as bad as anyone so far.
“It’s never ideal to be playing catch up and the pressure will be on us, that’s for sure.
“It could end up being a blessing, though. Sometimes when the games come thick and fast you gather momentum.”
Tom James (suspended) and Lee Canoville (broken hand) miss Saturday’s Vase clash.
