Pat Rayment was delighted with the response of Spalding United’s squad as they got back to winning ways.

The Tulips boss blasted his players for a lack of effort in the 4-0 defeat at Deeping Rangers.

But they responded well on Saturday as goals by Andrew Tidswell (3), George Stainfield and Mark Jones earned a 5-1 win over Wisbech Town.

Rayment said: “It was much improved. We’ve got too many good players to let that happen as it did at Deeping.”

Tonight’s friendly with Huntingdon Town is off but Spalding have arranged a home game against Moulton Harrox on Thursday.

Bourne Town were beaten 8-2 by Stamford ahead of Saturday’s UCL Division One opener at home to Irchester.
