Holbeach United 0 Yaxley 1: OMAR Joof’s final Carter’s Park appearance didn’t quite go to plan as Yaxley played the role of party poopers on Saturday.

The midfielder, who is retiring at the end of the season, saw the Tigers beaten by a dogged Yaxley outfit in their penultimate fixture of the campaign.

Chris Beech bagged the only goal of the game ten minutes into the second half, as the Cuckoos gained swift revenge for last weekend’s 2-1 Leading Drove reverse.

Holbeach started the brighter, with Tommy Treacher forcing Aaron Bellairs into a smart stop and Steve Reed smashing an effort off the post.

Wes Lewis also headed an effort wide as the Tigers continued to press.

They went close through Joof and Jonny Allen after the interval, before Beech headed Yaxley ahead on 55 minutes.

Mitch Griffiths almost levelled on two occasions late on, but Yaxley held on for a smash-and-grab win.

Tigers: Bishop, Griffiths, Smith (Thompson 67), Elston, Warfield, Allen, Lewis, Joof (Newton 89), Reed, Treacher, Mowbray (Steward 72). Not used: Chand, Kirk.
