YAXLEY 1 HOLBEACH UTD 2: JONNY Allen fired a stoppage time winner as the Tigers continued their fantastic finish to the season.
The wideman headed home superbly from a Tommy Treacher cross to secure Holbeach a fine three points at Leading Drove.
Andy Beech had earlier cancelled out Wes Lewis’ first-half opener in an end-to-end UCL Premier Division clash.
Tigers’ boss John Chand had nothing but praise for his charges, who made it six wins in eight games.
He said: “It was a bit of a basketball match to be honest, both sides gave it a good go.
“Full credit to the lads, we hadn’t played in a few weeks but delivered a good performance. If we’d have taken our chances it could have been more.
“It’s nice to end the season in such good form. If we add three or four more players to the squad over the summer we should be really competitive next year.
“With King’s Lynn looking like staying down and Spalding coming into the league, there will be derbies galore to look forward to as well.”
Holbeach enjoyed the best of the first half, although the Cuckoos’ Andy Buckle fired an early shot over.
At the other end, Simon Mowbray went close twice before Jack Smith’s cross was headed in by Lewis on 41 minutes.
Mowbray could have doubled Holbeach’s money moments later, but forced a smart stop for Yaxley stopper Aaron Bellairs.
The hosts started the second half well though, levelling when Carl Taylor crossed for Beech to bury.
Holbeach responded well with Treacher and Mowbray both inches away from a second, while Ricky Lovelace had to be at his best to keep out Beech.
With time running out Luke Kennedy again worked Bellairs, as Yaxley looked like they’d hold on.
But with seconds left on the clock, Allen was Jonny on the spot to head a dramatic winner for Chand’s men.
Yaxley boss Gary Clipston said: “Two pieces of dreadful defending cost us the game.”
Tigers: Lovelace, Griffths, Smith, Elston, Warfield, Allen, Kennedy, Lewis, Newton (Thompson 61), Treacher, Mowbray (Steward 79). Not used: Bishop, Chand.
