HOLBEACH UNITED 1 (A Staffieri 80) BEDFORD TOWN 0: ADDIE Staffieri’s late strike earned the Tigers an eye-catching win on Tuesday night.

The striker, who officially penned terms after the game, came off the bench to score the only goal of the game at Carter’s Park.

Higher-graded Bedford become the fourth team to lose to Holbeach in pre-season, who so far boast a flawless return.

Delighted boss John Chand said: “It’s not about results at this stage, but this really is a great win for us.

“We’re picking up a winning mentality, which can only be a good thing.

“I’m glad we’ve now got Addie signed up, he brings us something we didn’t have at the club. He’s an out and out finisher and will score a lot of goals.”

Ashley Stevens is another man who knows where the net is. The ex-Deeping Rangers striker was handed a start by Chand – and he made quite an impression.

The trialist hitman, who played for Wisbech Town last season, is also attracting interest from Soham Town Rangers.

Chand added: “Ash is having a think about what he wants to do and so are we. He’s a good player but nothing is signed.”

Chand has signed defensive midfielder Giuliano Staffieri though, while striker Barrett Steward has been released.
