SPALDING RFC: Town’s testing double-header

Derby RFC v Spalding RFC (Saturday, 3pm): MORE than just Midlands One East points are up for grabs this weekend.

Town and Derby square off in a ‘double-header’ fixture, which will also serve as an NLD Cup quarter-final.

It’s also the second meeting in a month between the two sides, with high-flying Derby winning the Memorial Field reverse 21-19.

The hosts go into the clash 36 points clear of Spalding – but skipper Harry Sharman insists that they are beatable.

He said: “We would have beaten them at our place but for a last-minute penalty, so we’ve got everything to play for.

“They’re a strong side, but I thought we produced some of our best rugby of the season last weekend.

“If we play to our potential we’ll give them a good game.”

Town have no new injury concerns and should field the same squad that crushed Leighton Buzzard 52-26 last weekend.
