SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Grammar boys cruise to victory

Spalding Grammar School’s football team secured their place in the knockout phase of the LB Cup with a 3-0 win at Kings Ely on Thursday.

Dave Endersbee’s side started well when Timmy Magnus notched his second goal in as many games following a lovely through ball by full back Lewis Pryke.

Ryan Kirchin, Alex Vassallo and Alex Wood had chances to extend the lead, but it stayed 1-0 at the interval.

The Grammar boys did extend their advantage early in the second period when substitute Luke Want converted from close range following an excellent cross by Wood.

Spalding continued to dominate and soon made it 3-0 when the pace of man-of-the-match Dan Wilshire helped the striker break through onto a through ball from skipper Sam Howells to slot home coolly.

Grammar’s first team will now face Oundle in their final group game, where a draw or win will be enough to secure top spot in the group.

Spalding (4-4-2): Shuster; Pryke, Booth, Nottingham, Bird (Dicker); Allen (Want), Howell (c), Magnus, Kirchin; Wood, Vassallo (Wilshire).
