Spalding boss Pat Rayment wants just two more signings to complete a squad capable of pushing for Evo-Stik South honours.
Rayment, who guided the Tulips to the United Counties League title last season, wants a striker and an attacking midfielder to add to the quality he has already added to the squad in recent weeks.
He is awaiting an answer from Jordan Thomas, who spent last season on loan from Lincoln City, and he hopes the promising striker will agree to a return to the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field.
He said: “I have spoken to Jordan and am awaiting an answer and if he agrees to return I will only be looking for one more signing.
“If Jordan doesn’t sign I will try to sign another striker. I also want one more player, probably an attacking midfielder, and if those signings come off I would only then add to the squad if someone of real quality became available.
“We have got people who can play in a variety of positions so it is more a case of adding to the quantity more than the quality.
“I am happy with my squad and couldn’t have asked for any better in terms of the quality we have brought in, although I would like to add those two players.
“I only have a squad of 14 players and that include two goalkeepers so we are a bit light in numbers.
“My budget is the same as last season when we were in the UCL so instead of spending that money on 17 or 18 players I am looking to spend it this season on 15 or 16 players.
“It’s a case of me having to box clever but things are coming together very nicely.
“I think Kern Miller is going be an excellent signing in the centre of defence.
“He could turn out to be one of our best signings and Julian Kelly, if he gets back to playing as well as he is capable of after taking a break, could be a great addition.
“If he gets back to enjoying his game and finds his form again we could end up getting money for him.”
