WELLINGBOROUGH TOWN 0 DEEPING RANGERS 2 (Evans 5, Gilbert 90): MATTY Evans marked his final Deeping appearance with a goal as his side eased to an eye-catching success.

The former Spalding United skipper, who is leaving for the Army, fired a fifth-minute opener at the Dog and Duck on Saturday.

A last-minute second from substitute Kev Gibert sealed Rangers’ 13th UCL Premier Division triumph of the campaign – but it was Evans who took the plaudits from player/boss Tuncay Korkmaz.

The Turkish tactician said: “It was nice for Matt to go out with another goal and we had a night out to say goodbye to him afterwards.”

Evans was equally glowing in his praise of Deeping, on social networking site Twitter.

He said: “Cheers for everything that everyone has done. Appreciate it. Hope to see you all soon.”

The right back, who also netted in his penultimate game for Rangers at Holbeach last Wednesday (report page 62), wasted little time in firing his side ahead.

After that it was all Rangers, who wasted a string of fine chances. A number of them were spurned by leading scorer Josh Moreman, who left his shooting boots at home.

Deeping were forced to wait until the final minute to wrap up the points, Gilbert jumping off the bench to net his sixth goal of the season.

Rangers: Doughty, Evans, Jackson, Logan, Tinkler, Weston, Holt, Burton-Jones, Beck (Ginty), Heron, Moreman (Gilbert).

Saturday: Deeping v Daventry Utd (3pm).
