DEEPING RANGERS 6 IRCHESTER UNITED 1: Tom James notched a hat-trick as Deeping ruthlessly dispatched hapless Irchester on Saturday to climb back into the top four.
Man-of-the-match James was involved in pretty much everything. He got the ball rolling with a penalty on seven minutes, before Spencer Tinkler volleyed home the second at the near post following a cross from wideman ‘TJ’ (18).
Ryan Oliver then buried number three on the stroke of half-time. It was the ex-Sleaford Town ace’s third goal since rejoining Rangers – and again James was the provider.
The goals continued to flow after the interval, with Scott Ginty (48) notching the fourth with a 20-yard drive off the underside of the bar.
Ex-Spalding winger James bagged his second from a rebound five minutes later, before Irchester’s Josh Burge (63) lobbed home a consolation.
But James had the last word, racing onto a Matt Heron flick to round the keeper and complete his treble.
Player/boss Tuncay Korkmaz said: “It’s always tougher than you think against the struggling teams. They defended in numbers, so it was vitally important that we scored pretty early on.
“It’s nice to be back up to fourth, that’s always been the aim for us. Top six is good, but matching last season and getting fourth again would be a another great season. We’ve got six tough games left, so it’s important we keep producing performances like this.”
Rangers: Doughty, Tinkler, Stone (Simpson), Ashton, Julian, Holt (Beck), Ginty (Wells), Burton-Jones, Oliver, Heron, James. Not used: Korkmaz
