TUNCAY Korkmaz has spoken of his desire to stay as Deeping Rangers boss beyond the end of this season.

The title-winning Turkish tactician took over as Deeping player/manager on an interim basis following the departure of Pat Rayment last month – and has won three of his seven games so far.

Despite being frustrated by the big freeze, which has seen Rangers limited to just two games in December, Korkmaz is enjoying his second stint in the Outgang Road hot-seat.

He said: “I’m optimistic for next season, as things stand I’d like to stay beyond this year.

“My intention is to stay with the club, I’m enjoying life here.

“So far we’ve won three and lost three of my seven games in charge.

“My aim for the rest of the season is simply to win more than we lose and see where it takes us.

“In a selfish way, if my record is positive in terms of winning more than we lose, then it’s mission accomplished as far as I’m concerned.”

Korkmaz, who enjoyed a fine spell as a player with Spalding United, isn’t so positive about Monday’s traditional festive derby with Blackstones going ahead though.

The Stamford side, bossed by ex-Rangers duo Darren Jarvis and Michael Goode, are due at Outgang Road for a 3pm kick off.

But the Deeping supremo doesn’t think there will be much holiday action in the Hereward Teamwear UCL Premier Division this year.

He added: “I’m looking out my window and all I can see is snow. There’s no way our game will be on if this continues.

“Even our training session on an all-weather pitch was cancelled.

“But it’s not just affecting us, everyone has the same problem – even Premier League games are being called off.

“To take the positives, we have played more games than anyone in the league and shouldn’t face a fixture pile-up in 2011.”

Should the derby with Stones go ahead, new signings Adam Weston and Kevin Gilbert will be involved.

Winger Gilbert has joined from Peterborough and District League side Coates, while Weston is back for a second stint with Deeping after making the move from Stamford.
