Deeping Rangers 3 Raunds Town 0: MATT Heron’s blockbuster strike was the highlight as Rangers eased to victory in this drab spectacle.

The midfielder’s 11th minute rocket ripped the net out at Outgang Road, while Liam Harrold added a typical double to make it eight goals in four games for the hitman.

Tuncay Korkmaz’s number two Brett Whalley took charge of the game in the Turkish tactician’s absence – and he was happy to see his charges keep a rare clean sheet on Saturday.

He said: “The conditions didn’t allow us to play great football but it was pleasing to see the lads grind out a result.

“We took our chances when they came along and keeping a clean sheet was a nice bonus as it is something we haven’t done often enough.”

Rangers: Crockett, Gilbert, Ainslie, K Jones, Thomas, Heron (Hands), Hughes (Smitheringale), Stevenson, M Jones, Harrold (Bettinson), French. Not used – Lomas, McDonough.

Tonight – King’s Lynn v Deeping (7.45pm); Saturday – Northampton Spencer v Deeping (3pm).
