RANGERS: Finishing cost us – Korkmaz

DEEPING RANGERS 1 S&L CORBY 2: Tuncay Korkmaz bemoaned Deeping’s poor finishing as bogey side S & L picked up a smash and grab Outgang Road victory on Saturday.

A late Jamie O’Neill free kick three minutes from time earned the relegation-threatened Corby all three points, making it back-to-back UCL Premier Division home losses for Rangers.

Lewis Stone (37) had earlier cancelled out David Sheridan’s 26th-minute opener with a powerful effort direct from a free kick. Sheridan’s strike came from a James Doughty fumble – the keeper’s second big error in as many games.

Although the result doesn’t effect Deeping’s plight too much, player/boss Korkmaz was still rueful.

“It wasn’t our best performance,” admitted the Turkish tactician. “We had plenty of chances in the second half, but didn’t work the keeper anywhere near enough.

“To then concede from a late set piece was tough to take, a real smash and grab.

“They’ve been a real bogey side for us over the years and it seems set to continue.

“Luckily it doesn’t change too much for us, we’re still well positioned to achieve our goal of a top six finish.”

Korkmaz also confirmed that he’s in the market for a new atacker, but has yet to make an approach for anybody. He does have big Matt Heron back in his squad for tonight’s trip to basement boys Irchester United. Rangers then have a rare Saturday off, before visiting Wellingborough on February 23.

Rangers: Doughty, Tinkler, Jackson, Ashton, Julian, Holt, Bull (Lambley), Burton-Jones , Beck, Ginty, Stone.
