COGENHOE UNITED 0 DEEPING RANGERS 7 (Heron 36, 62 & 68, Moreman 40 & 89, Burton-Jones 73, Logan 78): RAMPANT Rangers roared to their biggest win of the UCL Premier Division season as they knocked seven bells out of Cogenhoe on Saturday.

Matt Heron took his tally to 23 for the season with a hat-trick, while leading scorer Josh Moreman added a brace to make it 33 for the campaign.

Further strikes from David Burton-Jones and Chris Logan helped Deeping stretch their unbeaten league run to ten games – and kept Tuncay Korkmaz’s men on-course for a top six finish.

Despite the severity of the scoreline, the Turkish tactician reckons his on-song side have played better and lost this season.

The player/boss said: “It was just one of those days, we were very clinical. It’s a tough place to go and I’d have taken 1-0 for sure.

“Obviously there’s plenty of reasons for me to be pleased, it was a great display and we could have scored even more.

“We now need to concentrate on our run-in and finish in the top six, which has always been my goal.”

Another positive for Korkmaz was the debut of Callum Reed, who got 70 minutes after joining from Wisbech Town.

Deeping were also allowed the luxury Nick Jackson’s missed penalty – but it all could have been different had keeper James Doughty not pulled off two excellent early saves.

The victory helped banish the memory of last Tuesday’s night’s Hinchingbrooke Cup semi-final defeat to Stotfold.

Deeping had led 2-0 with 15 minutes to go through Burton-Jones and Moreman, but lost 3-2 after extra time.

Korkmaz added: “Even such a big win can’t take away the disappointment of the cup loss.

“We really wanted to reach at least one final this season. But there’s no point getting upset about it – we must concentrate on finishing the season well.”

Deeping: Doughty, Tinkler, Jackson, Logan, Julian (Ginty), Weston, Reed (Holt), Burton-Jones, Beck (Moreman), Heron, Brader.

Saturday: Thrapston v Deeping (3pm).
