Holbeach Primary School pupil Olivia Simpson has taken another step towards her goal of playing for England.
This season she hopes to continue her progress by scoring goals for Norwich City’s girls under-11 team.
Olivia started playing football in the garden with her older brother Josh who will be in goal for Fishtoft under-15s this season after moving from Holbeach United’s youth team.
At first she joined Holbeach aged seven and in her first tournament was spotted by Rob Gifford who managed Wisbech Acorns.
She was soon spotted by the Norwich scouts who put her in the under-9 centre of excellence and under-11 elite group.
After a brief spell with Holbeach under-10s, she returned to Wisbech but just before the start of last season Olivia was rushed into hospital with a burst appendix.
She recovered to help Norfolk team Firside Foxes under-11s win the league and cup. Olivia also claimed the players’ player-of-the-year award.
Now aged 10 she has been offered a place in the Norwich under-11 centre of excellence which means she can no longer play for Firside Foxes.
Mum Jayne said: “You will always find her with a football at her feet and a big smile on her face.
“As a treat Olivia went to see The FA Women’s Cup final at Milton Keynes. She was very inspired by the Arsenal ladies and has aspirations that she will one day play for England Ladies so watch this space.”
